Pinterest Popularity is Surging Compared to Facebook and Twitter

Pinterest is growing more popular, and it’s an issue that Facebook, Twitter and other sites that vie not only for user-generated content, but the user’s TIME that should be most worrisome. Content needs to be kept fresh, current and user information up to date, and to do that, users must commit their time to the site. The numbers are showing that more time is being spent on Pinterest and less on Facebook, even thought Facebook’s numbers of course dwarf Pinterest’s and Twitter’s. And everyone elses, for now.

Pinterest is very young, relatively to even the tech world and literally in the actual world, and while the current content on Pinterest is growing exponentially, people are spending more time on the site. Time, being a finite resource that companies compete for, is shifting away from dear OLD Facebook and being spent gathering junk on Pinterest.

Here’s yet another infographic illustrating the success of Pinterest:

New Pinterest Profile Redesign

New Pinterest Profile Redesign

Pinterest unveiled a total profile redesign today, which judging from the reactions on Mashable’s comments, the vibe isn’t positive. I have to initally agree, although I want to give it a chance to settle on my eyes before outright condemning anything.

Here’s a screenshot of my profile at my personal Pinterest Page (Due to a screen the size of Nevada, I have 6 rows across.):

As you can see, it totally jacked up my 3×3 profile photo board! Back to the drawing board on that 0ne. But the pinboards seem a little more cluttered to me. The main photo isn’t always all that eye-catching, as opposed to being presented with 9 images of the same size to decide which is the most interesting. This design forces you to look at the main photo no matter how dull, and maybe or maybe not look at the rest before moving on. From a marketers standpoint, you don’t want people balking at your boards.

But like I said, I’ll give the new Pinterest design a chance. The CEO (Ben Silbermann)was saying they had dozens of fully-coded sites before deciding on the 3×3 grid. I hope thay don’t get caught up in some “me-too” game that many new companies foolishly engage in.

I’ve been finding some great stuff on Pinterest and posting stuff of my own on Pinterest (which you should do; not just repin other people’s stuff–that’s boring!)
